Comment: Filmed over two performances in Rotterdam, Holland in October of 2007, Rush's new DVD Snakes & Arrows Live captures the legendary band in peak form, performing classic Rush material and nine new songs from their critically acclaimed 2007 CD Snakes & Arrows. The 2-disc concert DVD is presented in both 5.1 audio and stereo, and also included is a bonus disc of four songs added for their 2008 American tour, including "Ghost of a Chance," filmed here for the first time. Since the release of their eponymous first LP in 1974, Rush has continually expanded the definition of "progressive power trio." Guitarist Alex Lifeson, bassist/keyboardist/vocalist Geddy Lee and drummer/lyricist Neil Peart combine dazzling virtuosity, laser-beam intensity and unbridled creativity to create a cohesive whole that's infinitely greater than its parts. The Toronto-based group has become one of Canada's leading exports, with a catalog of genre-defining releases including 2112, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Vapour Trails and Snakes & Arrows and a live show which combines musicianship, showmanship and multi-media effects that engage all the senses. Following their previous best-selling DVDs Rush in Rio and R30, Snakes & Arrows Live presents a band not resting on its considerable laurels but still earning its reputation as one of the world's best live bands - one night at a time.

Comment: It triggered Australia's exploitation explosion, sparked a worldwide censorship battle, and remains on co-star in the ultimate down-under cult classic, now fully restored from original vault elements.
Hessians MCSummary: This is an exploration of the history and the brotherhood that has been the legacy of the legendary Hessians MC...this is a very real look into not only the Hessians MC but also its members who are in the club.
The Last RidersSummary: When Johnny becomes a member of the Slaver s biker gang it s a dream come true. But the murder of a crooked cop calls for a scapegoat and he is chosen. Suddenly Wilson is alienated and the police convince the Slavers that Wilson sold them out and the gang returns to take the ultimate revenge. Now Wilson must seek revenge against his past and will not stop until justice is done.
Rebel RousersComment: Hilariously bad! I love old Drive-In style biker flicks and this one is even worse than She-Devils On Wheels. A real gem of bad editing (the music is so loud at times you can't hear the dialogue), poor acting & blatant ad-libbing. This movie must have taken a whole week to make. All the bikes are Triumphs but Bruce Dern reads from a Harley-Davidson Service Manual. I loved Nicholson's prison striped pants with the dirty seat and a hole in them. I laughed my butt off on this one.
Angels Hard as They Come (2004)Summary: A band of schizo bikers meets a van of wasted hippies in a weird ghost town and their mutual anarchy evolves into a free-form orgy. This biker movie glows with raw primitive energy rustic location shooting a progressive rock score and a group of the most unscrubbed characters you're ever likely to see. A fascinating 70's look at hippy culture vs. biker culture the two groups seem originally destined for compatibility with goal-less philosophy and wandering nomadic lifestyle but the disparity between the pacificism of the hips and impulsive war-like misery of the alcoholic bikers soon erupts into all- out war symbolized by the rape/murder of a hippie chick. The stoned losers roll between angry despair and reckless bravado ending in mutual impasse that reinforces their elemental hopelessness. This film powerfully discloses the disintegration of a culture that feeds on its own spiritual rootless ness. The verite camera style and the earthy realistic dialogue along with generous doses of nudity and violence make this a startling disturbing ultimately haunting experience.
Beyond the LawSummary: Charlie Sheen is a fearless cop, who goes undercover in order to infiltrate a notorious motorcycle gang, in this film based on a true story. He soon finds a new outlaw persona taking hold of him and risks destroying himself by getting too close to the evil he has sworn to fight.
Easy RiderComment: This box-office hit from 1969 is an important pioneer of the American independent cinema movement, and a generational touchstone to boot. Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper play hippie motorcyclists crossing the Southwest and encountering a crazy quilt of good and bad people. Jack Nicholson turns up in a significant role as an attorney who joins their quest for awhile and articulates society's problem with freedom as Fonda's and Hopper's characters embody it. Hopper directed, essentially bringing the no-frills filmmaking methods of legendary, drive-in movie producer Roger Corman (The Little Shop of Horrors) to a serious feature for the mainstream. The film can't help but look a bit dated now (a psychedelic sequence toward the end particularly doesn't hold up well), but it retains its original power, sense of daring, and epochal impact.
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro ManSummary: "Hotly staged bike chases" (Variety), state-of-the-art weaponry and "excellent explosions" (Hollywood Drama-Logue) form a deadly combination in this "lively" (Los Angeles Times) action film about a couple of modern-day, motorcycle-ridin' Robin Hoods. Starring Mickey Rourke (Get Carter), Don Johnson (Tin Cup) and Vanessa L. Williams (Shaft), Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man contains thrills and excitement that never let upwith surprise twists at every turn! In the lawless world of the future, drifters Harley Davidson (Rourke) and The Marlboro Man (Johnson) help an old friend save his bar by robbing the very bank trying to takeover his property. But this is no ordinary bank and the armored car they roll is filled not with moneybut drugs! Now Harley and Marlboro become the objects of a ruthless manhunt by the corrupt bank chief's deadly and unstoppable henchmen.
Hell RideSummary: From Producer Quentin Tarantino (Grindhouse Presents: Death Proof) and Writer/Director Larry Bishop (Mad Dog Time) comes this lean, mean mayhem machine - fully loaded with bikers, babes, and booze. Michael Madsen (Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2), Eric Balfour (TV's "24") and legendary "Easy Rider" Dennis Hopper are part of a wild motorcycle gang bent on avenging the death of one of their own. With Vinnie Jones (The Condemned) as the crazed arrow-wielding rival gang leader, Hell Ride is a savagely enjoyable good-time where the women are hot, the bikes are even hotter, and the action never stops!
The LosersSummary: It was a mission no one in their right mind would take: rescue a captured CIA operative from a highly-fortified Red Chinese compound in Cambodia at the height of the Vietnam War. Enter The Devil's Advocates-- a red-knuckled, freewheeling, hellraising biker gang comprised largely of war veterans. Led by Link Thomas (screen legend William Smith) and loosely supervised by U.S. Army Capt. Jackson (the inimitable Bernie Hamilton), the curiously good-hearted gang drink and laugh and love and fight their way through the scenic countryside before retrofitting a slew of Yamaha motorcycles into armor-plated machines of death and destruction. And that's when the real fun begins... but at a high price!
Run, Angel, RunComment: What can I say? I was named after the character in this movie so it has certain sentimental value for me. The main character's actions are a bit frustrating at times. You may find yourself thinking, "why the f*&@ would he do something like that?!" But I guess that is the way of the B-movie, things don't always fit together perfectly and make sense. Cool to see some old-school motorcycles and choppers! Sometimes you gotta love bad movies...
Bikers From Hell, Triple Feature: Run, Angel, Run / Hell's Angels 69 / Hell's Bloody DevilsComment: I enjoyed watching these movies. The real Hells Angels(Oakland chapters founder/president Sonny Barger and others) are in HA69.If you like old biker movies buy this. Joe Bob Briggs is never at a loss of words. The commentary extra feature with him was cool.
Hells Angels on WheelsSummary: When he loses his job, gas station attendant Poet (Academy Award-winner Jack Nicholson) falls in with a rough band of Hells Angels who terrorize Northern California in a hellraising frenzy of parties and gang fights. Choppers, drugs, sex, murder and mayhem ensue as Poet and gang leader Buddy (Adam Roarke) head down a dark road to danger. From acclaimed cult director Richard Rush (The Stunt Man) with cinematography by the legendary László Kovács (Easy Rider, Paper Moon) and music by Stu Phillips (Battlestar Gallactica, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls).
Biker DreamsComment: This is a good little flick for a number of reasons.First is it light-hearted and well knitted together making it a pleasure to watch. Second, the contrast between all those presented and the roles they play in the Greater Harley Society bear close attention and appreciation. Sturgis is perhaps the most unique gathering of motorcyclists from every facet of the Harley culture (as well as other brands) in the United States. This is a good first effort at presenting just a splinter of that event, putting faces to stories and stories on film.Having owned and ridden three HDs, one a '43 45cc stocker, I truly felt for Martin when his snazzy semi-custom HD went on the fritz along the way to Sturgis. Some things about Harley Davidson do not change with time / evolution of the "product". Respect to "Liddo" Jim Cornett and Resurrection MC. Nice little flick for the collection.
The Wild OneSummary: This is the original motorcycle movie, starring Marlon Brando as the brooding leader of a biker gang that invades a small town. The film always looked like one of those synthetic Hollywood ideas of subculture life in the 1950s, which means it looks even more artificial today. But it is an actor's piece more than anything, and toward that end Brando's performance really is an important one in the context of his revolutionary reinvention of film acting during that decade. Directed by Lásló Benedek (Namu, the Killer Whale) and produced by the socially conscious Stanley Kramer.
Hollywood Biker ChicksSummary: They're hot and fast. And, they're especially happy when riding hard or hard ridden. So, get ready because you're in the driver's seat with some heavenly biker babes including former Penthouse Pet of the Year Julie Strain, and Penthouse centerfold model Shannon Brock.
Bikini Bandits Save ChristmasSummary: Join the infamous Bikini Bandits in their first full-length animated feature film as they try to save Christmas from the evil Mr. G. You'll see a whole new kind of Christmas "tail" with zombie strippers, muscle cars, voodoo magic and heavy artillery. So exciting you'll drop a yule log! Featuring Tool#s Maynard James Keenan as Father Christmas!Music by The Misfits and A Perfect Circle! Also starring Schoolly D, Godfather of Gangsta Rap!
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's NestSummary: A nice rest in a state mental hospital beats a stretch in the pen, right? Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a free-spirited con with lightning in his veins and glib on his tongue, fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the "nuts." Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on. This means war! On one side is McMurphy. On the other is soft-spoken Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), among the most coldly monstrous villains in film history. At stake is the fate of every patient on the ward. Based on Ken Kesey's acclaimed bestseller, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest swept all five major 1975 Academy Awards: Best Picture (produced by Saul Zaentz and Michael Douglas), Actor (Nicholson), Actress (Fletcher), Director (Milos Forman) and Adapted Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman). Raucous, searing and with a superb cast that includes Brad Dourif, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd in his film debut, this one soars. |
